Pueo- The Hawaiian Short Eared Owl
I was asked to do a picture of a Pueo- the endemic Hawaiian short -eared owl by my hula sister. This was going to be a gift for her sister who was expecting a baby boy, to be named Pueo. She wanted some blues in the picture, so I decided to do a combination of blue patterns together using a Western style and Japanese paper together. The tricky part was to capture the eyes. All pictures of the pueo have the distinct large, round, yellow eyes that characterize this beautiful bird. I wanted to be true to that feature. This piece is about 9x12" in size.
